What Kind of Energy is Good for the Environment?

From the kind of news we hear today, it seems that everything human beings do or have done on the earth is bad for the environment. What we call progress has somehow come back to bite us in the form of pollution, environmental degradation and loss of resources.

Given the stresses and constraints of daily life, how do we make the correct choices? And is there anything that we can really do to change the way things are going? These are difficult questions, the answers to which few, if any, will have. But there are things we can do in good faith, and know that we have done what we could to help protect the future of our world.

For one, simple things like choosing locally grown and seasonal food can mean that we don't support the current unsustainable food system. The kind of energy we use, business electricity as well as at home, could be from renewable sources. This means we are supporting a more sustainable form of energy production.

We can reduce the waste we produce by reusing what we can and reducing the amount of things we consume in the first place. Using things that use minimal packaging, not using plastic bags, using environmentally friendly products is the start.

If you have the space, initiatives like growing your own vegetables, and composting organic waste are some small but very significant steps not only to making sure you help protect the environment, but in voicing your dissent about the way the world functions at the moment.
